A new study from a team of psychology researchers found significant clinical
distress among college students, related to the 2016 presidential election.
The study, published Monday in the peer-reviewed Journal of American College
Health, found 25 percent of students had “clinically significant event-
related distress.”
Such distress is linked to future diagnoses of Post-Traumatic Stress
Disorder, according to the study, which interviewed students at Arizona
State University around the time of President Trump’s inauguration.
Melissa Hagan, an assistant professor of psychology at San Francisco State
University who conducted the study, told the Washington Post she was
motivated to conduct the study after seeing students crying and “visibly
upset” in the days following Trump’s election. |
