An inmate at Rikers Island has contracted the coronavirus, the Daily News
has learned — the first person in city custody to test positive for COVID-
19.
The news came just hours after union officials announced that a correction
officer also has the infection. The correction officer — a member of the
Security Operations Division — worked at the entrance gate at Rikers, union
officials said.
