1709 | 3 Something I don’t understand right now is why the media is intentionally
pitting Trump against Dr. Fauci. Over and over again they’ve put Fauci in
an impossible position where he has to bend himself into a pretzel in order
to tell the truth about the virus but also not piss Trump off so he doesn’t
get fired. We all know how Trump works at this point. He doesn’t want to
be upstaged and he doesn’t want to be contradicted.
I’m not saying we should have to play his game, but quite tragically that
is the way things are right now. A journalist got Fauci to say Trump could
have saved thousands of lives if he had acted earlier, and now quite
predictably Fauci’s head is on the chopping block. Do we really want that
man to be fired right now, the only adult in the room coming out in those
briefings actually telling the cold hard facts about the virus? Does anyone
really believe that Fauci’s firing would actually change any of Trump
supporters minds about the monster? No. He’ll just be replaced by someone
who does a better job at towing the company line. Or he won’t be replaced
at all and Trump will just talk more.
Journalism has a duty to tell the truth particularly when we have an
administration lead by a pathological liar. But there has to be some tact in
how it goes about that. This tactic
that values a gotcha moment over as important of a human resource as Fauci
has been just doesn’t make much sense to me. |
