She referred to the Aug. 2 State Department announcement that thousands of
Afghans who worked for the United States, for a government-funded project,
or a U.S.-based media company or NGO would be eligible for resettlement as
refugees in this country. The program applies to those who don’t qualify
for SIVs.
But the government has no plans to support their evacuation, which means
newly eligible Afghans must find their own way out of the country to safety,
