Morrison wanted to cancel the French contract because it cost too much.
Simple as that.
But he couldn't just come out and do that because he would be pilloried in
the Aussie press for leaving Australia defenceless, so he got Sleepy Joe and
Bonkers Boris to help him out.
But there is NO contract. NO tender process. NO feasibility study.
No. Nothin'
Just a headline, and a commitment to form a tripartite group of "consultants
" who will spend EIGHTEEN MONTHS mulling over whether or not this is even a
good idea. Or even if it is possible.
It isn't possible.
Adelaide won't be able to build these things.
The two US shipyards are fully committed building subs for the US Navy.
The Brits? Imagine having to rely on Boris for... well... anything.
The NUCLEAAAAAR SUBS!!!! headline is pure smoke and mirrors, and after 18
months (which is after the next election. What. A. Surprise.) that committee
will release its report, which will state in no uncertain terms that this
can't be done.
