Eileen is apparently the first freestyle skier to win 3 medals at one
Olympics (and 2 of them gold, at that)!
She made $30 million in endorsements last year, and that was before she
launched herself figuratively and literally on the biggest stage in China.
She's probably a good bet to top the Forbes list of highest earning female
athletes this year.
On another note, as a figure skating fan, I really appreciate how in
halfpipe (both snowboarding and freestyle skiing), having great amplitude
trumps having more rotations, in terms of scoring. That would be a great
thing to bring over to figure skating.
As this thread from r/Olympics a day ago showed, figure skating used to have
massive jumps. But now the trend, especially with the top Russian skaters,
is to do tiny jumps that barely leave the ice but get in rotations quickly.
The additional rotations lead to a massive increase in scores, but it has
the effect of making ladies figure skating into a sport for stick-like
little girls who must avoid puberty at all costs.
If figure skating emphasized amplitude in jumps instead, though, older
skaters would actually have a chance, and they'd actually gain an advantage
as their muscles develop as they age. See Midori Ito for an example of an
old school skater with absolutely massive jumps.
