No mention of letting the market set interest rates? (What do markets know
about efficient allocation of resources anyway. We can always improve market
performance with arbitrary models.)
I remember reading the article on the FT last year in which despite all the
common sense to the contrary yellen suggested you could have your cake and
eat it. The only one I heard talking any sense on the matter was Larry
summers who correctly said what all economic history up until recently had
agreed upon - that you can't increase your money supply by 50% in little
over a year, hand it out as mass welfare, ruin whole industries and pay
people not to work, without severe pain for your own citizens. Either it's
gross financial incompetence or it's being done deliberately. This democrat
administration has been an absolute shambles for the west.
Energy policy: Shut down Keystone XL pipeline (thereby shutting down any
planned pipeline as collateral damage), put Alaska and other Federal land
off limits, impliment new EPA, BLM and Energy Dept Regulations effectively
prohibiting or making new development financially impossible.
As you said, it's gross incompetence or it's being done deliberately.
Trumps administration cut taxes (inflationary), tariffed the majority of
commodities and user goods ( inflationary), cut immigration to the lowest
level since the inception of our country during a period of falling birth
rates ( inflationary ) then handed out trillions when the pandemic started.
The Democrats continued these inflationary policies. I wouldn’t blame one
party I would blame them all then ourselves for putting all these yahoos in
power. We need new parties.
Not just the democrats, the tories have done the same the the UK. In Europe
a mix of right wing and social demogratic govts too have done the same.
Right on. On record, Summers was the only sane mind. The handful of
incompetent Economist Nobel Laureates were teaching classes online.
Larry Summers was not alone. Mohamed EL-Erian decried the Biden "Go Big"
stimulus in a supply short economy and disagreed with the "17 Nobel
Laureates" and their transitory inflation mantra. Give him some credit too.
How completely refreshing to have a senior public figure admit a mistake.
Admitting to being human after all, and demonstrating their humanity in the

I enjoyed Biden's WSJ plan for fighting inflation: When prices go up, give
families more free money so they can pay the higher prices! Any 12 year old
understands that!
So if you were wrong and all is clear now - why the staggered and slow
approach to raising rates? At the first whiff of trouble ahead - the fed and
it’s sister central banks had no issue tanking the base rate.
I remember, many years ago, a chair of the FED who told us that
unfortunately reality was not in sync with his economic model. Now central
bankers were not able to see what everyone saw coming: inflation. Let alone
that they will take swift action. Let's hope going forward central bankers
will 1. focus on what they are paid to do (manage inflation and/or
employment), 2. refrain from other subjects (taxation, stranded assets and
the like) and 3. be a bit more humble and mingle with people who have a hard
time to makes ends meet.
I love how his strategy is to respect the independence of the fed. So, in
other words, he’ll do nothing and blame them for everything.
Yellen doesn’t even know what year we are in. ;0)

The fundamental issue is that economics is poor on risk and simply rubbish
on uncertainty. Take one E out of EEIST, transform EIST into Formation
Economics, put Allocation Economics to one side for the big stuff, and the
patient should recover.
Economists use "shocks" as an excuse. Big mental model gap in the discipline.
I suspect he is just waiting for the next "crisis" that will justify the
money press being cranked up again.

I respect that she at least could admit that she made a mistake. Most of
these big shot economists act like they are perfect. |
