I cannot hate him more.
IVY league undergrad, worked in HK, move to China 5 years ago, and the more
I stayed, the more I hated this country, particularly this man.
The changes I experience after he came to power:
1. No more Google, and further tightening and censorship of the media. How
on earth will Chinese talents learn from the rest of the world when you don'
t even know what others are doing (at least not legally)? Maybe Xi Jinping
thinks that Chinese are too smart to learn.
2. Cult of personality. Xi is everywhere, on TV, on newspaper, on internet,
making all sorts of supreme decrees in all areas, as if he is GOD,
omnipotent, omniscience, and omni-benevolent. "Let's have more positive
media coverage!" "Let's not have such strange looking architectures any more
!" blahblahblah! He surely does think he knows better than everyone on
everything, so he is entitled to set standards for everyone. Eeeerh!
3. Yes, he is fighting corruption, only because he wants to spend all the
money himself. He will use the money to further consolidate power, suppress
oppositions, strengthen military, bully his neighbors, and painting a more
glorious image of himself and his party domestically and globally.
As one of my friend said before Xi came to power, while Bo Xilai was a
capitalist covered up as a Red Guard, Xi is a genuine Red Guard not afraid
of entering a war with the US. He is mimicking Chairman Mao, and planning to
take the whole country with him back to something equivalent of Cultural
Revolution or North Korea.
Basically, he is a very arrogant, very self centered, and imposing smug, who
enjoys power and flattery tremendously. He is appealing to the mob
sentiments in Chinese to achieve consolidation of power by: starting a
futile and superficial fight on corruption yet not removing the root cause
of corruption which is the monopoly of resources and markets by the ruling
class; targeting foreign corporations selectively yet doesn't provide a fair
and friendly environment for domestic private enterprises to prosper.
His education background and life experiences prevent him from realizing
that highly centralized government is detrimental to creativity and
diversity, the crucial elements of the competitiveness and vitality of a
modern society. The rapid advancements in technology, communication, and
transportation make this totalitarian system unable to cater to the growing
needs of such a humongous economy.
He and his party have to remember, the advancements in productivity is
irresistible, either you are with it, or you are out. People have only so
much patience.
