NATO obligations dont include getting ripped off on weapons purchases.
Turkey has a right to get the best deal for its taxpayers. Too bad more NATO
countries dont do the same and look at Russia or China for armament
purchases. They would get comparable quality and a much better price. Case
and point Central European nations that joined NATO recently are made to go
heavily into debt to purchase these arms. With the money loaned by IMF or
World Bank they then are subject to forced privatizations where people with
IMF contacts get natural resources and state companies at bargain prices.
Example being Romania which took a four billion credit line from IMF and is
now looking at buying twelve used F16s and parts and service for close to
one billion dollars. The Romanian taxpayer cannot afford that. Much better
deals would be in Russian or Chinese or South Korean Jets. I mean the old
Russian MIGs they had upgraded the electronics on were actually fine for
NATO exercises. They dont even need to blow one billion dollars and get the
Romanian taxpayer into IMF servitude. Hungary did the right thing my kicking
out the IMF. Who wants their printed worthless money.
