Surely some pics of an airplane don't prove anything one way or other - or
am I missing something here?
We know for sure that Chinese (despite all their noteworthy accomplishments
in recent years) have been
struggling to come up with a successful engine for a much more basic plane (
a core - and one of the most
challenging along with avionics - requirement to be truly considered an
indigenous airplane
manufacturer), they are struggling to convince even an isolated country -
and their closest ally -
Pakistan to not go with the better western avionics in stead of their own (
it shouldn't be like that if
they truly have the capabilities to produce an avionics suite for a 5th gen
stealth fighter!;
particularly when they have no real competition targeting this particular
customer). Same story with AEW
suites and other advanced subsystems. As recent as last decade, they were in
a bitter dispute involving
US and Israel to buy the Phalcon AWACS from Israel. Also, all their previous
indigenous (to take some
liberty with the term) planes have arguably been a copy of an established
Russian/Israeli design if not
an outright clone and while it doesn't preclude an innovation from the
Chinese this time around it does
increase the odds against that possibility. One can go on.
Now all of a sudden (in some things even less than a decade), they think
that they have been able to come
up with not only the advanced versions of all the things mentioned above (it
just doesn't work like that)
but also something - a 5th generation stealth fighter - which requires much
more advanced core
competencies than required by the things described above.
Now, I'm not saying that it is outright impossible for Chinese to do this
but considering their stage of
development and the track record of technical innovation, surely it is going
to take much more that a few
dodgy, blurred pictures of an airframe painted in a dark colour (so it must
be stealth, yay!) taken from
a distance. happy.gif

Its huge! I know everyone has said that already. But it's HUGE! I mean
gigantic. Gargantuan. Massive. Maybe should be renamed H-20. J/H-20. Or J/H-
12.
The front canards are either tiny or the pictures aren't doing it justice.
There seems to be (I may be wrong) something at the back below the canted
fins.
Between, have I said it already? The plane is colossal, mammoth, titanic,
cyclopean, behemothic, elephantine, commodious, monstrous, humongous,
stupendous, serpentine, towering, dragon-sized, hulking, gulliverian,
GrandeStrategic , stratospheric, supersized, blimpian, whopping.
This Balrog of a plane, needs an appropriate name. Perhaps Tiny
