A report from MnDOT says the freezing rain came earlier than predicted,
caught them off-guard and it was almost impossible to catch up. Allina
ambulance crews responded to over 200 calls in just 12 hours. The painful
memories for those who fell on sidewalks, driveways and decks will stick
around for a long time, along with the chaos for those who were in charge of
treating them.
"I've been working here since 1996 and I can say we've never had quite this
many people in such a short period of time." said Dr. Michael Broderdorf of
United Hospital.

Overnight was treacherous on the roads too. The Minnesota State Patrol is
reporting nearly 400 ice-related crashes and 57 of those involved injuries.
State Troopers received more than 900 calls between 10 p.m. Saturday night
and 2 a.m. Sunday morning.
"It was an incredibly busy night," says Eric Roeske of the State Patrol. "In
those slick conditions it's like driving on an ice rink. There's just no
way to control your vehicle."
