We all know that some online savings accounts and brokerage accounts will de
posit a certain small amount of money when a customer links his/her online s
avings accounts and brokerage accounts to another bank account to verify the
routine and account information. You have to enter the amount, which is typ
ically from $0.02 to $1.00, from your online savings and brokerage account t
o claim that the account belongs to you.
However, the California man, Michael Largent, used an automated script to op
en around 58,000 online brokerage accounts and accumulated thousands of doll
ars in about 6 months. He also used the same way with Google’s Checkout and
accumulated $8,225.29 in eight different bank accounts. (According to www.w
ired.com.)
It seems that this is a way to get you rich? Actually, “trial deposit” app
ears to be a standard way to verify your account information and most banks
or brokerage services will not withdraw that money. So, the more you have ba
nk/brokerage accounts, the larger the amount of trial deposits you can colle
ct!
How much can you make if you try this in a crazy way?
Let’s assume that you can link unlimited accounts to every account you have
, and each trial deposit is around $0.5 which is a typically number. Of cour
se, we should also assume that every account uses trial deposit to verify yo
ur account information. In this way, if you have n accounts and you want to
link them together with each other, you might need n*(n-1) deposits! The act
ual money you can earn is $0.5*n*(n-1).
Here is the result:
10 accounts—$45.00
20 accounts—$190.00
30 accounts—$435.00
50 accounts—$1225.00
100 accounts—$4950.00
200 accounts—$19900.00
500 accounts—$124750.00
1000 accounts—$499500.00
You can imagine how much you can make if you can open unlimited accounts and
link them with each other. Please don’t take this seriously.

后来银行学乖了，验证的deposit都要收回的

A California man has pleaded guilty to opening tens of thousands of bogus
online brokerage accounts and then pocketing tiny test deposits made by
companies like E-Trade Financial and Charles Schwab.
Michael Largent, 23, of Plumas Lake, Calif. pleaded guilty Thursday to
computer fraud charges in connection with the scam, which ran between
November 2007 and May 2008.
Largent's arrest was widely covered on the Internet last May, where it was
likened to so-called Salami Slicing scams depicted in movies such as
Superman III and Office Spaces.
According to prosecutors, Largent wrote a script that opened more than 58,
000 online accounts at instructions such as E-trade and Schwab. He used fake
names, including cartoon monikers such as Hank Hill and Rusty Shackelford
to open these accounts and then profited when the brokerage firms would make
tiny test deposits to make sure they were linked to his account.
Typically these deposits were between $0.01 and $2 but they added up. In
total he made or tried to make more than $50,000 in the scam, the Department
of Justice said.
Largent is also alleged to have received more than $8,000 in micro-deposits
from Google, although he was not charged with this in his May 22 indictment.
He is set to be sentenced on Aug. 13 and faces up to five years in federal
prison on two computer fraud charges, a U.S. department of Justice
spokeswoman said Thursday.

一“80后”买了刀片、尺和透明胶等工具，居然DIY（手工制作）百元面值人民币
，并用其调换真币。昨天，虹口区法院开庭审理这起变造货币案。
去年10月底至11月初，来自河南的陈简（化名）购买了刀片、塑料直尺、透明胶等
工具，在暂住处从N张百元面值的人民币上分别“截取”小部分，再采用裁剪、拼接、
粘贴等方法，变造成N+1张百元面值的假币。
之后，陈简在某银行自动存款机上存入这些变造假币，又立即在该行自动取款机上
取走真币。
其后，有储户从该自动取款机上取钱，拿到了陈简制造的假币，遂向银行投诉。银
行通过调取监控录像，将目标锁定陈简。
去年11月5日晚，陈简又在这家银行将变造的货币进行存取款操作时，被银行工作
人员当场抓获。
案发后，除4张变造货币已于去年11月2日上缴某银行上海分行现金调运中心以外，
另34张货币经中国人民银行《货币真伪鉴定书》鉴定，全部为变造假币，并已全部没收。
昨天，法院经审理后宣判，陈简犯变造货币罪，被处拘役6个月，并处罚金1万元。 |
