holding period is a bit longer at 180 days instead of 90 days. This offer is

（1）已有长期投资股票或基金的，钱反正是不动的，从另一个brokerage转过来，白拿
$1000，所谓死钱变成活钱。
（2）参考老余的帖子，可以拿到BOA的Platinum Honors status，有其它好处。

transaction fees, expense ratios, order routing, spreads, ... 0.5% is not
nearly enough compensation for being locked up with a subpar brokerage for
90-180 days.

its 100 free trades per month.
Although I have found Merrill's brokerage to be too conservative and blocks
trading on many ETFs and partnerships, some not even using leverage. For
those of course you want to leave at other brokerage.

for it if you transfer a big chuck of asset into their institution. For
example, I always got free trades from TD Ameritrade.

TD. At Merrill it's always 100 free trades per month, for life. It's a
standard feature, not a promotion.

from other brokerages, e.g. TD Ameritrade if you have enough asset with them
. I just asked TD Ameritrade to give me some free trades. They gave me 100
trades without any hesitation. I can use these free trades within 6 months.
That is more than enough for me. If after 6 months, I need some more, I can
ask them again.
100 free trades per month in Merrill Edge is not of much use to normal
investors (very useful for day traders) in my opinion.
