They send out a team to measure all parameters of the field prior to the
game. Since nowadays all cameras record its own real-time parameters such
as location, azimuth, focal length, etc, a computer can easily compute
where to draw the first-down line. The image you see on TV is a composite
of what the camera shoots and what the computer draws.
Football actually posed the biggest challenge to this technology, because
football fields are not flat - th

one mistake from referee can cause the game. It's not hard to do replay.
