this week, the Ducks move is more likely the result of anti-Boise State
sentiment among voters than an aknowledgement to the level of play in the
Pac-10.
On the same day the Ducks moved into the top 3, Stanford dropped from No. 9
to No. 16 in the AP poll and from No. 13 to No. 18 in the Coaches’ poll.
This is the same Cardinal team that led Oregon 21-3 at Autzen Stadium, every
bit as tough a place to play as Death Valley or The Swamp, before losing a
52-31 shoot-out that was one of the most entertaining games so far this
season. USC dropped out of the poll after losing to Washington
Then there’s LSU, which moved up a spot to No. 9 in the Coaches Poll after
a too many men on the field penalty allowed the Tigers to overcome Les Miles
’ usual incompetent clock management and a botched play to slip past
Tennessee 16-14. Tennessee, you might recal, needed two overtimes to edge
Alabama-Birmingham.
All of which suggests that college football’s East Coast bias remains very
much alive and well.
Despite Oregon sitting smack in the middle of the BCS race, the Pac-10 still
isn’t getting the respect it deserves UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel said
Monday.
“Not as much as they should and I’m not mad at anybody,” Neuheisel said
when asked if the Pac-10 was getting the level of respect it deserved. “I
know we’re on later, but not as much as they should. The Alabama-Florida
game got all kinds of notoriety but by the end of the score it didn’t seem
like it was quite the game it had been built up to be. It was built up but
other than Alabama against Penn State who had they played? And yet it was
built as this monster rivalry. Certainly both programs are proud programs
and deserve all the recognition but I think we award things before it needs
to be awarded. But certainly the Pac-10 has no apologies to anybody for
being where we are as a conference. ”
The Stanford and LSU moves in the polls, reflect the sport’s eastern and
SEC-centric bias, Neuheisel said.
“That doesn’t make any sense to me,” Neuheisel said of the Stanford drop.
“For Stanford against maybe one of the more explosive teams in recent
history and to be in the game, I think at one point they were ahead 21-3,
and to fall like that and for LSU to stay at No. 12, no disparaging remarks
towards LSU, shoot they found a way to win the game, but they beat Tennessee
and Tennessee the week before was in double overtime against (Alabama-)
Birmingham. But that’s kind of the bias that the West Coast kind of feels.” | b*****a

they done.
Since this is Kelly's 2nd year, UO may very well jump ahead of OSU if both
team are going play the same as their first conference game.

发帖数: 3809 | 9 Loss of Masoli didn't hurt Oregon at all. The new Oregon QB Darron Thomas
is having a better year than Masoli did last year.
