o it would have been, if the Buckeyes actually got to keep the money, which
they did not. The $18.5 million went to the Big Ten, where it was added to a
pool of bowl revenue that was then sliced into 12 shares—one for each team
, one for the league office. That still left Ohio State with a tidy $2.2
million to spend, which the Buckeyes did. Ohio State's team travel costs
were $352,727. Unsold tickets ran the school a cool $144,710. The bill to
transport, feed and lodge the band and cheerleaders came to $366,814. Throw
in entertainment, gifts and sundry other expenses, and the Buckeyes lost $79

The author also forgot the income school got for selling the bowl related
product, for example OSU T-shirt with 2010 rose bowl champion. For a school
like OSU, that is a large number.
A lot of bowls only pays 500k. That is not even enough to cover travel
expense. It is only a problem for schools like ND, but not for big ten
because league reimburse what ever the cost first before distributing money.
Part of the reason why Nebraska left big 12.

那是时隔30年后的第一次，Donna Shalala说，大家都去热闹热闹吧，就都去了。回来
一算，傻了，Big 10不报销！而那时候UW体育部门正亏着了，还砍了许多项目。当时州
政府不批准这笔开支，不知道最后差的钱是不是Shalala当卫生部长是才还回来 -- 最
近看到一则消息，说这Shalala女士还真敢假公济私，在卫生部长任上给Big 10 Office
弄了一笔钱装修厕所。也许那时Big 10送来Shalala一个人情帮忙垫了钱也说不定。 |
