Gordon Shepherd
美国科学院院士,是能同时应用实验和理论模型方法来研究神经元、神经网络回路的
集大成者。目前耶鲁大学神经生物学教授。
他是早期致力于用计算模型来模拟神经元活动的科学家之一,曾和will rall合作奠定
了神经电缆理论。他早期对olfactory bulb的实验和理论研究是神经科学领域最早的研
究大脑系统回路的典范。也是最早对嗅觉信号的空间编码模式给出实验和理论研究的先
驱。
他是1993年构划‘人类脑计划’的主要人员,并几乎在同时推动了神经信息学的建立。
名扬天下的Neuron模型软件(http://www.neuron.yale.edu/neuron/)是Gordon,Michael Hines等最初提出并完善建成,目前几乎所有前沿领域的计算神经模型科学家们都或多或少在应用这个软件建立复杂3维结构的神经元模型。Gordon还是IBM BLUE BRAIN PROJECT的
评审委员会主席,而MICHAEL HINES是BLUE BRAIN PROJECT模型的首席顾问之一。

他的实验室SenseLab,创建的几个神经科学数据库CellDB, NeuroproDB, ModelDB,
MicroCircuitDB, ORDB, OdorDB, 是神经科学界最早的、也是目前非常完善的神经元
、神经网络、神经模型、神经嗅觉分子受体、嗅觉图谱等数据库。
2008年11月GORDON度过了他75岁生日,众多的已经名满天下的弟子前来祝贺。作为美国
科学院院士,Gordon本可安享天年,但至今79岁的他在耶鲁大学教授神经信息学---
该校历史上首次开创‘神经信息学’课程。
Gordon为人及其友好,先后培养出5 Chairs/presidengs of Achems and 6 recipients
of the Wright Award,几十位教授。他对中国学者非常友好,和中国神经科学鼻祖张
香桐、
冯德培等人是至交。
