房子我觉得都不好看。。。而且没什么选择。。。那个town太小了。。。

the town is nice, price is low.. but commuting to NYC is a huge pain.. you
have to transfer at hoboken...

I checked the schedule, to mid town, the train may take 45 to 55 mins and
transfer at Secaucus. It seems that this is common for good schoold
districts in New Jersey. Any places for suggestions? |

train station and time from Penn to ur work.. so we 're looking at least 70-
80 mins.
but why limit yourself to NJ?
we looked at ridgewood, hohokus, livingston and milburn. milburn is
probabaly the best town, good schools and a relatively easy commute to
Manhatten.
then we also looked at scarsdale and bronxville in westchester.. they are a
little more but even better commute to the city..
but at the end, we found our home in Great Neck... the housing price is
about the same as milburn, the commute is 25 mins to Penn, about the same as
Milburn, the school system is better than milburn.
but real advantage is that great neck is 15 mins drive to Flushing, from
there we would have easy access to commuting nanny, cheap grocery, tasty
chinese food, cheap home repair ppl from heating to roof.. and eventually
cheap music teacher, and chinese schools..
flushing is the best place on earth and great neck is right next to it..

可以控制在六十分钟以下。 比如7:57出发那班，
转path, 8:50到world trade center.
转train, 8:39到NYC penn station.
其实纽约的问题和新泽西一样， 能控制在一小时以内的地方， 房子都太老了。
宁愿每星期多花一两个小时在路上， 也要八十个小时呆在新房子里。

the commute, door-to-door for under an hour.
personally, i don't mind older houses.. you can always rennovate it slowly..
. its all about renovation... location is something you can never change.

毕竟， 一星期100多个小时在家里， 多一两个小时在车上，
换个100多小时的舒心，还是划算的。
我一个朋友住great neck, 五房居然也只有两千多尺。 周围环境也不佳。

another extra hour to the commute means i would not be able to see my
daughter during the week at all. i don;t think its worth it..
i am also pretty happy with my 1928 house. i know ppl who bought houses
built around 2000 already have a lot of problems. go figure..

From flushing, if you take the #7 express train during rush hour you can
arrive Grand central in 23 mins. But of course, if you don't live right next
to the main st station, you would have to add another 10 mins - 15 mins to
get to the station.. It may take up to an hour for one-way commute from
flushing to anywhere in Manhattan, but I doubt it would be any more than
that...
Great Neck does not have subway so you have to take LIRR. Express train in
the morning is 25 mins to Penn Station. There is a train every 15 mins or so
.. I drive to the train station, about 3 mins from my house. If I walk, its
about 12 mins. My total comute time is about 45 mins, door to door.

to park only if you don't live in Great Neck. Someone from New Hyde Park
would never be able to park in Great Neck train station
Parking at the station is $3 something/day, or $60 something/month, or $500
something/year. There are 3 parking lots right next to the station, I
usually take the 7:47 train and park in the north, the parking lot is only 1
/3 occupied by then and it never gets more than 2/3 full... Parking is free
after 5 pm on weekendays and all day on weekends.

sin. Most ppl leave work between 10 - 12... and come back to work between 8
- 9..
so.. no complain about my working hours.. i don't personally know anyone who
gets off work before 6...
i would rather spend the time working than commuting though..

I used to pay over $10K for my 2bed condo in Hoboken.. though I was able to
appeal it and brought it down to $6K, still too high compare to Great Neck...
the tax in westchester is a lot higher than long island.. but the real
penalty of living there is that it is too far from the best town on earth,
Flushing.. there is only a half retard chiense supermarket in white plains..
