小孩现在是学龄前。
short hills的学区似乎更好，但房价更贵。
short hills去过多次，对tenafly不了解。
有没有熟悉这两个地方的介绍一下？多谢～ |

肯定是Short Hills。
如果Short Hills房价对你太贵，
有两个选择。
喜欢火车的话，选Summit或者Madison。
火车好处是快，不堵车。坏处是每小时才一趟，错过了要等一个小时。
还有火车站的停车位很难搞。
喜欢汽车的话，选Livingston或者Parsippany。
汽车的好处是频繁，上下班时间，15-20分钟就一趟。
停靠站多，比较容易买到离车站近的房子，走路就可上班。
坏处是比火车慢一些，有时要堵车。

呀。可是对我们这些工作一族来说性价比不是更应该考虑？我在这边送小孩去幼儿园已
经感受到peer pressure了，住在short hills的人没有.5 million年入的话怕是也有压
力吧。
总体说Tenafly比short hill要便宜些。但是学区很不错。交通也不错，早上到城里要
50分钟左右，基本上高峰期5-10分钟一班公车。开车到城里也特方便，我周末进城到
GWB20分钟不到。到flushing不要半个小时如果你走triboro的话。
因为town小，差不多所有人都是走路到车站。我走的这条线有166,20 14选择，还有68
好像。地税应该是比short hills低些我想。

发帖数: 606 | 12 作为个体的棒子其实素质还不错的。才不到7%，感觉对中国人还是比较友好的，毕竟在
美国的中国人素质质量也不输的。
其实tenafly是美东出名的犹太人小镇。大概就和老印在eidson扎堆一样多。犹太人比
较现实，对整体素质高的东亚人还是比较友好的。我买房时遇到的犹太人就认为东亚人
和犹太人一样work hard and smart.
这边的Jewish Community Center很出名。很多附近镇的人包括中国人，韩国人都去活
动，我女儿也在里面找了个据说很专业的日本老师教钢琴。

从小学到高中一直住在一个地方的话，short hills应该是最好的选择吧？另外因为
tenafly高中也很好，所以想比较一下。
因为我们之前已经在newport买房了，所以如果再搬家的话就想一步到位住到小孩高中
毕业，中间不想再折腾了，

Penn is 25 mins during rush hour..
price is about the same as some of the good towns in NJ, the school ranking
is much much higher, property tax is about the same.
but more importantly, GN is much closer to Flushing, cheap/better grocery,
cheap labor (contractor, roofer, gardener, nanny..), good piano/ballet/
karate teachers..
why limit your serach only to NJ? unless one of you actually work in NJ, GN is a much better choice for any chinese who works in midtown. but to mention in a few years, the LIRR will also makes stop in Grand central, making things even better.

司的CEO什么的。可是作为工薪阶层住在那里就比较有压力，房子小，旧不说，将来小
孩从小就攀比人家富翁家小孩，然后发现原来的朋友没几年就去贵族私立了。所以我建
议就算是为了小孩有个合适的心态，去适合自己经济实力的地方，比方说那附近的
livingston或者chatham都不错。当然tenafly也不错，也是这种次重量级的。

Millburn High School不管是US News排名，还是WSJ排名都是全国前列，Great Neck在
全国排不上号啊，可能也就是和长岛上的学校比还可以。

we moved to GN after my kid was born, for better schools and more space..
we did our search in NJ first, the same towns that you are looking at..
these towns were all okay with okay schools. but at the end, GN won because
a number of things.
1. Our parents would also come to live with us from time to time. For them,
it's much easier living in GN. they could just take a bus from GN to the
heart of Flushing in 20 minutes. they could hangout in senior centers with
chinese food, make friends, attend computer classes, and etc.. had we chosen
to live in NJ, they would get stuck in the house during the week.
2. schools are better.
3. commute is 25 mins to Penn, you just can't get any better than that, even
if you live in Millburn. The same train also stops in Flushing, so you
could stop there for dinner on ur way home. by 2016, the train would also
make a stop in grand central.
4. being close to flushing makes everything easy, from commuting nanny and
cheap grocery shoppinp. no need to say more on that..

if you go to PA or DC often, than you should live in NJ, its much easier to
get to those places from NJ than Long Island.
but for me, I almost never go to PA or DC. I go to Flushing a lot more often
, so it dosen't bother me much with only L.I.E.
I ofen drive the Manhattan on weekends, its about 25 mins.
not too sure of what strip shopping mall you were reffering to. I have not
seen any around GN. But even if there were some, why is it a problem?

两个是上世纪20年代的，90几万，2000多尺；
一个是1986年的，1.8米，4000多尺；
一个是2007年的，2.35米，5000尺。
两个是2011年的，2.5-2.8米，5500-7000多尺。
90几万的没法看，没有任何买的意义。
1.8米的就很不错了。
2米以上纯属看着玩儿。。。
其实short hills有些房子是被house flipper买了之后重建或翻新，新房子也不是完全没有，只是
价钱很贵了。

Rye Brook and some others are in top 100, but not Scarsdale. I always
thought Scarsdale is No. 1 at least in Westchester.

STANFORD， 那么长岛哪些Town的毕业生上长青藤/MIT/STANFORD的比例高一些呢？

没有哪个town能保证你进藤校的。

personally, i don't care if my kid would end up in an ivy or not. as a
parent, my goal is to bring up my daughter to 1) live happy, 2) do not cause
trouble to anyone else.
If she could do that, even if she doesn't end up in any college at all, I'd
be happy.

league和其他各大名校有渊源啊。。。每年从millburn high到名校的比例那是比很多
比她排名高得多的高中无法比的啊～说白了，人家那叫关系户～

另外，每年的Intel 奖， 怎么很少看到millburn high的学生得奖？
