there is some suspension in my previous NY driver license.
NY DMV send me a letter ,long time ago, telling me that my drive license
suspended due to w/o insurance coverage, but at that time, I already have a
NJ driver license, (NY driver license is automated cancelled the same time )
. And I have already have a insurance for my NJ address. So I did not pay
much attention to that. But today I received such a letter.
what should I do? I check the NY letter said, I need to pay 50 dollars for a
suspension termination fee. What does that for? anybody know how to
handle situation like this?

You are not required to have insurance to have a driver license. You are
required to have insurance if you had a car.
After you transfer your license from NY to NJ, you suppose to change your
car registration from NY to NJ, and return your car's NY plate to NY DMV.
The NY DMV will give you a receipt to prove you returned the plate.
If you had the receipt, it's a proof that NY DMV made a mistake.
If you had not returned your car plate, you should have violated the rules.
(I guess it is because your car is still registered with NY State, and you
are required to be insurance in NY State, but I wasn't too sure.) |
