Microsoft has announced that users of the Hotmail email system will be
automatically upgraded to Outlook.com in the next six months.
The Outlook system was offered to Hotmail users in preview mode from last
July, giving them the chance to experience the new interface or stay with
their old one.
But the "preview tag" will today be removed, and users will have their
accounts automatically upgraded to Outlook.com
Director of Microsoft products for Australia and New Zealand Miriam Romaniuk
said 60 million of the 300 million Hotmail users worldwide had already
upgraded to Outlook.
In New Zealand, 256,000 people were using the new service in January
. While users previously had the option of using their old system, they
cannot opt out of the upgrade.
Ms Romaniuk said the transition between email systems would be simple, and
users could expect their email address and password to remain the same.
She described the new interface as "fresh and modern" with no unnecessary
clutter.
"We spent time building innovative, smart tools so you can manage your
emails much easier," she said.
"It's about bringing email to the forefront." |
