标 题: 请问有在联合国工作的吗？

收到了united nations 的offer
给的数字是take-home net income, 似乎联合国职员是不用交social security tax的，那么这样退休后不是少了social security的收入？ 想请教几个问题，请站内联系，或者email l****[email protected] or

基本上如果你非美国公民，是不用交SS，所以以后没法享受Benefits。不过他们自家的
pension很好，而且你可享有Internation package。 |

如果雇主忘记扣ss tax. 如果IRS追究，责任在谁？是雇主还是雇员？

international package，
你得放弃申请绿卡。

met privately yesterday with members of the Senate Finance Committee to
explain his tax issues and a minor issue concerning a housekeeper's
immigration status. After the meeting, Committee Chair Max Baucus of Montana
said, quote, "The errors were not intentional. They were honest mistakes."
But a spokesperson for the ranking Republican Senator Charles Grassley of
Iowa said the senator believes the issues are serious.
Most of the tax problems occurred while Geithner was employed at the
International Monetary Fund from 2001 to 2003. The IMF does not withhold U.S
. taxes, as most employers do. It does add the approximate amount of the
taxes due to the employee's pay, and then the employee has to forward tax
payments on to the IRS. It appears that Geithner forwarded some tax payments
, but not others.
For instance, he owed Social Security taxes to the U.S. government. He did
forward the employee portion to the IRS, but he did not send the portion of
the Social Security tax normally paid by the employer, as he was supposed to
do. The IRS audited Geithner for tax years 2003 and 2004 and required him
to pay additional taxes and penalties, but Geithner did not amend his 2001
and 2002 tax returns until Obama transition officials discovered the problem
. Geithner quickly paid the nearly $26,000 he owed. Republican Orrin Hatch
of Utah, who serves on the Finance Committee, said the issue should not

To begin with, you also sited a wrong case. Whether it was right to do
so it's a separate issue, but IMF DID forward the employer's share of
taxes to Geithner so that he could send his and the employer's shares
to IRS. It WAS Geithner's fault not to submit both portions of the
payments. Not getting into the debate if it was truly a honest clerical
issue at Geithner's part as he claims, it nevertheless was the reality
that he kept the money that wans't his at the first place. So all in
all it was his fault indeed.
Most employers, in any case, would not pay taxes via employees. They
should withhold those taxes and submit it directly to IRS and/or
appropriate state tax department(s). The word "withhold" says it all.
I checked out the IRS site, it says both employers and employees are
responsible BUT the employers seem to be more liable for failing to
comply. It says, if the "employers who do not comply with the
employment tax laws may be subject to criminal and civil sanctions for
willfully failing to pay employment taxes." For employees, it did not
mention any criminal or civil sanctions unless it was intentional.

发帖数: 1087 | 16 退休后social security这一块不算很大块的收入啊，每个月还要都交那么多social
security tax，我算了自己的退休金，最大块的还是类似401的contribution(雇主
match 5% 的salary)，其次是pension，social security最少。如果我能选择不交
social security tax的话，我高兴还来不及，宁可把这钱投资到别的地方。
虽然联合国的pension 不错, 但是退休后就少了social security的收入,在如何
negotiate offer这方面想请教几个问题，请站内联系，或者email l****[email protected]

social security 退休金算一下以后能拿到的，比较一下自己交的tax，对稍微收入不错的人来说，看不出什么诱人的，基本上等于把钱交给别人保管，等老了再把钱拿回来，能从social security得到好处的基本就是低收入群体。social security本来就是个独立的agency，而且都快破产了。

title和pay grade。 HR说benefits那些要接受offer以后才由另一个office的人发给我
。我只知道有30天vacation， 其余的benifits还不清楚，education grant, rent
subsidy 等等都不知道有没有。像我这样在美国本地招的外国人也有international
package 么？

接受offer才能知道。
