Beacon Rock, Columbia River Gorge
As one of the Gorge's most recognized landmarks, this 848-foot-tall basalt
monolith has been depicted on everything from oil painting to beer bottles.
The narrow, .9-mile switch backing trail, sections of which were blasted out
of the rock in early 1900s, might induce shivers, but the vista at the top-
-of the might Columbia rolling beneath a blue curtain of dark forests and
steep canyon walls --is well worth the fight.
4T Trail
Completed in 2009, this urban adventure tours a quarter of transportation
modes: trail, tram, trolley, and train. Take the MAX to Washington Park,
follow SW Knight Blvd to the Marquam Trail, ascend to Council Crest (at 1,
073 feet, the city's highest point) for a five-volcano view, and then trek
down through the wooded canyon to OHSU, where the Portland Aerial Tram
whisks you to the glass and concrete of the South Water front and the
waiting streetcar.

Oak Island Nature Trail
Too long to write down the other three, but you should be able to google them out. |
