I am a former Intel employee. I have a quick question to ask. Any Intel
employee who's participated in ESPP can probably answer my question. Does
the income in W2 include the 15% of salary spent on purchasing ESPP stocks?
Thanks for the answer in advance.
It's the holiday season and it's kind of slow to get reponse from Intel
accounting. That's why I posted the question here.
Merry Christmas!

W2 includes the part of your salary that you spent on ESPP. The 15%
discount of ESPP does not contribute to your W2. The discount part counts
toward your income when you sell the ESPP stock, as capital gain. For
example, in a year you put $850 of your salary into ESPP to buy $1000 worth
of stock, the $850 counts toward your w2 of that year. If you sell the $
1000 worth of stocks right away, you get $150 short term capital gain
reporting on your 1099-B. |
