美国有家叫Mountain House的公司，专门做脱水应急食品。产品包括意大利面、牛肉、
鸡肉、米饭、蔬菜……等等。

这种食品是专门为紧急情况准备的。厂家通过良好的干燥、灭菌、密封等手段
，使保质期可以到二三十年。营养丰富，热水一冲就可以吃，而且口味很不错——当然
，作为方便食品来说。不过好东西不便宜，你要是拿这个当饭吃，大概一顿需要10美元
——零售价。
今年2月，Mountain House给很多订购用户发了封信：

Dear Valued Mountain House Customers:
We would like to provide you with an update on our #10 can situation.
Demand for Mountain House #10 cans remains very high; therefore we are
still unable to meet all #10 can production needs. Oregon Freeze Dry is
allocating as much of our production capacity as possible to this market
segment, while still allowing us to meet requirements in other markets. We’
re only able to fill #10 can orders for our largest and most long-term
dealers at this time. We’d be happy to provide you with a list of these
dealers – please e**********[email protected] more information.
We expect this situation to remain until at least this summer. At
this time, we are not able to predict an actual date as to when we will be
selling #10 cans on Mountain House: Freeze Dried Food, Food Storage, Camping
Food, Backpacking Food, Emergency Preparedness. or to our entire dealer
network.
We would also like to share with you a recent company announcement to
show that we are working on making improvements to be able to address these
sudden increases in food storage demand. We’re making a major investment
in expanding our production facility that will increase our production
capacity. These modifications will start in May 2011 and we estimate the
project to be completed by September 2011.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. OFD is working
incredibly hard and fast to turn this situation around as quickly as
possible. Again, we invite you to contact us for a list of dealers in your
area that have #10 cans in stock.

2 月初，FEMA （the Federal Emergency Management Agency，联邦紧急事务
管理局）网站放出了一个招标，要购买可供1400,0000人吃10天的应急食品。按一天三
顿就是4,2000,0000份，按一天两顿也是2,8000,0000份。很简单就可以算出这个标是10
亿美元数量级的。

In response to the recent concern of FEMA purchasing Mountain House
products:
FEMA posted the following RFI (Request for Information) on 1-20-2011. In the
RFI, FEMA was asking for information for 14M/day for 10 days. They then
withdrew the RFI on 1-27-11. The RFI is a request for information only. It
is not an order. In addition, this RFI was never sent to Mountain House.
This is to confirm that Mountain House is not supplying FEMA or any other
Government agency with Mountain House #10 cans or pouches. The Federal
Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) procures and stores pre-packaged
commercial meals to support readiness capability for immediate distribution
to disaster survivors routinely. The purpose of this Request for Information
is to identify sources of supply for meals in support of disaster relief
efforts based on a
catastrophic disaster event within the New Madrid Fault System for a
survivor population of 7M to be utilized for the sustainment of life during
a 10-day period of operations.
As you know we have removed #10 cans from our website temporarily. The
reason for this is sales of #10 cans have continued to increase. OFD is
allocating as much production capacity as possible to this market segment,
but we must maintain capacity for our other market segments as well.
Currently we are able to meet demand for Mountain House pouches and most of
these products are still available for purchase on our website. We do have a
small number of dealers that we will continue to make and ship #10 cans to
and you will need to contact them directly to place an order. For a list of
dealers, please contact us at M*****[email protected]
We expect this situation to be necessary for several months although this
isn’t a guarantee. We will update this information as soon as we know more.
We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your patience. We
sincerely hope you will continue to be Mountain House customers in the
future.
