Strategy Analytics says 51.7 million tablets were shipped in Q2 — up 43-
percent compared to the same time last year. Android tablets increased from
18.5 to 34.6 million units shipped, for 67-percent of the market share.
Apple saw shipments dip from 17- to 14.6 million units, decreasing its
marketshare to 28.3-percent, according to the firm.
Microsoft saw a healthy increase in shipments from last year — though it’s
still only around 4.5-percent of the market.
If Android tablets now have 67% of the market, as Strategy Analytics says,
then it’s something of a reversal. Market researchers like iSuppli soberly
predicted Apple would maintain their tablet domination for years.
Gartner forecast that Android tablet sales would increase eight-fold from
2012-2017, but iSuppli said Apple will maintain a dominant market share.
They predicted total global media tablet shipments to reach 124 million
units in 2012 and 197 million in 2013, to 250 million in 2014, and to 311
million in 2016.
Gartner now says that traditional PC Shipments will decline 10.6% in 2013,
while Tablet shipments will increase 68% with tablet sales of 201,825
expected in 2013 and 276,178 in 2014. | g*******t
