Hell, it's not even what they want. Google has been trying to install
Android in devices for years and it hasn't worked one time. These OEMs don't
have the most basic building blocks to support Android. Little things like,
"we ought to update the OS in a timely fashion." "We ought to have
sufficient security for the bloatwares we make!" That a user ought to be
able to use the fucking phone without flash it! And you think you can just
unite these OEMs based on some free apps, , drop a few sericess, push some
ads and start an ecosystem? Give me a break! People don't want open-source.
They want boundaries and rules. Protection, from mobile virus and from
themselves. People need an OS which can give them both the support and
constraints to keep chaos at bay. You give them that, and they'll follow.
And that's where Apple comes in.
