Astrazeneca is a top tier European drug company with excellent benefit. I
heard the annual bonus for year of 2007 is 43% of salary. But that is just
one example which may not be representative but a case is a case.

they could pay 200% of bonus, which means if the target is 20%, the real
bonus paied will be 40%, your friend must be in at least Ph.D senior
scientist position, those may have a 20ish% bonus, if he did very well for
that year, a 43% bonus is not outrageous.
usually management have way higher bonus percentage.
