Workshop Schedule
Friday, June 21
7:00 pm–8:30 pm: Alex and Rebecca’s joint slide talk, book signing, Q&A,
and reception at Aperture Foundation, open to the public.
Saturday, June 22
10:00 am–1:00 pm: The weekend workshop will begin with reviews of each
participant’s work on Saturday morning, a process that will spark a larger
discussion about various photographic issues, including the process of
photographing spontaneously and intuitively; how to edit photographs; how to
work in cultures different than one’s own; and how long-term projects can
evolve into books and exhibitions.
1:00 pm–2:00 pm: Group lunch at Aperture.
2:00 pm–6:00 pm: Afternoon presentations. The first day will end with a
group editing exercise and an optional photography or editing assignment.
Sunday, June 23
10:00 am–1:00 pm: Sunday will be dedicated to reviewing each participant’s
assignments, as well as a series of presentations about bookmaking and
exhibitions.
1:00 pm–2:00 pm: Group lunch at Aperture.
2:00 pm–6:00 pm: Continuing presentations. The class will end with an
informal Q&A session with the Webbs.
Materials
Participants should bring about 30–40 prints (please bring prints, NOT
digital files). The prints don’t have to be fine prints, they can be small,
inexpensive work prints, such as 4-by-6 or 5-by-7 drugstore machine prints
or computer inkjet prints. The main focus is the image, not the quality of
the print. Those working in multiple series should bring a selection of
photographs from two or three series, or an excerpt from a long-term project
. We are interested in each participant’s individual vision, rather than
whether he or she can work professionally or not. Bring the personal project
or projects—the work that represents your passions, your obsessions—
instead of the images done simply to satisfy an editor or art director.
Again, if you intend to complete the assignment, please bring a digital
camera to the workshop.
The optional photography assignment: If you are already photographing a long
-term project in New York, feel free to continue photographing said project
after class on Saturday or on Sunday morning before class. For others, you
may want to choose a street or neighborhood to photograph. Whatever you
choose to photograph is up to you. If you intend to complete the assignment,
please bring a digital camera to the workshop.
Those who would prefer not to photograph on Saturday have the option of
bringing to class on Sunday thirty small prints from a long-term project
that they are passionate about. On Saturday, you will be given an overnight
editing assignment due on Sunday morning. (Please let us know if you’re
interested in this option, so we make sure we have enough time in class on

。尤其是我这种受werner bischof影响的，简直是要从自己的灰烬里重新站起来。
