part of a guided group for upper antelope canyon.
btw, you should consider visiting the wave. much more interesting IMO.

I was lucky and won the lottery for The Waves for Sept. 7.
I've been to the Antelope N years before. It cost only $10-15 to Upper
Antelope but now it's about $50/head.

canyon in the Indian reserve?
Actually I think join one of the tour/photo tour is probably the best way to
visit the Antelope Canyon. It is more expensive to rent a decent 4X4 to
drive there - if you do not live there already. The ride is not that
pleasant - dusty and all sand. If you are staying in Page, AZ, there are
plenty of tours around every day - almost every other hour.
The wave is way too difficult to get the permit. But if you are already
there, around Vermilion Cliff, Coyote Butt, and Paria Canyon, etc., I think
there are plenty of other slot canyons, and the-wave-like places you can
hike - not as famous as The Wave or Antelope Canyon, but not much of
difference. Before The Wave and Antelope Canyon were commercialized, they
were nothing much more attractive either. You can stop by the Kanab, UT BLM
office to get maps and necessary stuff and go along yourself - if you are a
seasoned hiker.
Have said it, personally, I think the photos from Antelope canyon and the
wave are mostly - tacky. And I think it is very difficult to get good shots
from these places. The color, light and feature of land and canyon is so
extreme and unique, that leaves little room for your own creativity.
