9+ Shows little or no signs of wear

8+ Shows moderate wear or finish marks
8 Well used - may exhibit "dings" or finish marks
7 Shows considerable amount of use - More than average wear
6 Useable, but has considerable optical or mechanical imperfections.
Returnable, but our 90- Day warranty policy does not apply.
The B&H Used Dept does not distinguish between "grey market" and US-
warranted merchandise for any item we sell. These distinctions are primarily
important for warranty purposes for new merchandise and all the merchandise
sold through our used department is out of the manufacturer's warranty so
in almost every case, the issue is moot.
You should be aware that while almost all the items sold through our used
department no longer qualify for the original manufacturer's warranty,
certain manufacturers in the US will not service goods whose original
provenance was "grey market", even for a fee. In almost all cases service is
available through independent repair facilities.
Every item sold through our used department comes with our own warranty. For
many items we also sell additional warranty coverage. Please ask your sales
associate for details.

FM, the seller claims 9+, however the lens has obvious dent on its side
body plus visible scratches, and a very old dusted cap.
He now says that he's willing to take it back and that he did not know any
marks whatsoever. I'm just a little bummed because I will have to pay the
shipping plus insurance to send it back correct?

发帖数: 3630 | 9 I think for any second hand equipment. It's very hard to put a 100% accurate
definition on these so called "condition rating", I don't know about other
equipment, but for lens, you will need to ask flat out for the following
areas if you don't see any real photos of the actual lens.
1. lens glass(elements). Ask the seller, if there is any visible defect such
as but not limited to scratches,crack,dust,marks,fungus, separations.If
they claim they are not professional and they cannot see. That's possible BS
since you don't need professional experience to just look. If you want to
risk it, ask him to open up the aperture and take clear photos of lens with
strong/light in the background and send you the photo for you to see. If he
refuse for any excuse. avoid.
2. mechanical operation. For older lens you can ask if the turning of
aperture ring and focus ring turns with problems such as stiffness, play,
slip or uneasiness.
For newer lens it's a lot harder to determines, so go for those they claimed
to have been tested with appropriated cameras. but limited test such as
focus ring is still testable without camera.
3. exterior condition. Ask if any dent, crack, modification, lost of paint,
marking, missing parts, dirt buildup. etc.
4. What is included in the sale, front/end cap. manual, box, etc.
If they said no on anything but the lens come with any or those defect, you'
ll have proof. If they give you any excuse like they are not professional
and don't know what to tell you. walk away. | k**L

operation. For lens, I think glass is #1 important, and in glass, rear
element is > front element. #2 is internal component such as aperture/focus
#3 is outer body. Unless you are a perfectionist.

发帖数: 1599 | 11 Thank you so much for your input! I just sent that pic to the seller but he
said that in a million years he would not call that a dent, and it will
happen with any lense barrel of metal construction, and it's probably
resulted from wrapping (I don't think soft paper wrapping would cause that).
He did often to take the lense back or refund me additonal 25$ if I decide
to keep the lense though. Don't know what to do now.

since they don't care much about equipment, as long as it is usable , so I
usually avoid buying from pros, hobbyists treat gear better

want to know if this is a 9+ condition as the seller claims it to be, and if
the dent could possibly result from any bumpping dropping.
