those most talented string theorist, like Minwana, Motle.. (it is more like
a post doc). But it is way much harder to get the tenure position at Harvard
. This should also be true for princeton and mit.
I heard a rumor when witten applied the job at harvard, geogia denied him
although witten has already done a lot of very good work.
Hope Yin Xi can finally get the tenure position at harvard. |

you should understand you won't get it {:p
As for Harvard, there are previous examples of Junior Fellows who stayed :DK
Witten's case was not that Georgi denied him position, but that he was
competing with Georgi for that position and Georgi got it. So Witten had to
move to Princeton GrZ

those people i know aren't in hep theory,
but they are in physics.
this again shows how difficult hep is.
i just wonder why people don't get tenure
first doing some other physics, and then
transfer to hep theory.

i suppose that's fine, though most people may find it unpleasant to study
many things?
given that spin chain and dimer model seem to be understood by some string
theorists,
i guess that's doable.
