The Theoretical Materials Science group in the Physics Department of the
University of Liege, Belgium http://www.phythema.ulg.ac.be is opening several PhD positions, starting September-October 2011, for a period of 4 years.
The main thematic is the first principles study of thermoelectrical
materials, for novel energy applications. Of particular interest are
nanostructuring, doping, and analysis of transport coefficients (within
Boltzmann theory). The aim is to achieve predictive quantitative accuracy
for the thermoelectrical efficiency of bulk and nanostructured materials.
Extensive collaborations with experimental and theoretical groups in Europe
and abroad provide a rich research environment. Important sub-themes of
interest are intermetallic compounds, oxides, and advanced theory and code
development.
Outstanding candidates are expected to have a degree in Physics, Chemistry,
or Materials Science, and interest in modeling materials properties.
Programming experience is a strong plus.

,UK..
but lower compared to Swtierland and Norway, sweden, Finland, Denmark.
