Title: PHONON-DRAG EFFECT OF NANO-SCALE FeSi2 FILMS AND THERMOELECTRIC
APPLICATION
Abstract: Phonon-drag effect usually occurs in single crystals at very low
temperatures (10 - 200 K). Strong phonon-drag effect is observed in nano-
scale FeSi2 films around room temperature. The Seebeck coefficient can be
reached to - 1.375 mV/K at 343 K for a 23 nm-thick FeSi2 film. By using the
phonon-drag effect, the thermoelectric power factor of a 27 nm-thick MnSi1.7
film in a multi-layer structure Si(30 nm) / MnSi1.7 / FeSi2 (10 nm) can be
reached to 1.5 W/m-K2 near room temperature. This value is larger than that
of bulk MnSi1.7 material.
