hoho, their suggestions are quite different from what I was thinking. It could
be 180 degree turn --- from hard core game theory things to the history of
china in Spring and Autumn period and Warring states period. What a change!
But anyway, the two profs are very nice and helpful. In fact, they are too
nice for me to decline their suggestion. But... a big question. |

approaches. but I guess you want to focus on game while they want you to focus on
history?

alize in game theory, I can not get helpful comments for the game theory
part. In fact, my main advisor's interest is state-formation.He had a g
ood book about the emgergence of sovereign states in Europe. So he said
if I didi a similar project for China he could give me more help...

went to Buniness School this quarter. Now noboday in our department did
it... At present, professors I work with are from Econ department and B-
School. Theoretically, I can invite them to join my committee but they k
now little about IR and I hope to keep certain relations with our IR fac
ulty memembers for the sake of job market... this is the problem...

其实他们说的话也有些道理，他们说现在系里的IR教授没有人做Game Theory的，如果我
想做这个题目就必须去请外系的老师做main advisor，如果是这个样子，那么将来在IR的
job market上就不会很competitive；另外，在IR里面搞中国历史研究似乎从现在的Job
Market上看还是比较有优势的，他们举的是那个写《Cultural Realism: Strategic
Culture and Grand Strategy in Chinese History》的Johnston，他们说Johnston声称
研读了所有中国的古代经典（诸子百家），因为美国没有其他人做这个，所以不得不相信
他说的是真的，而中国人做这个由语言上的天然优势，肯定会比美国人做的好。。。
不过我现在还有不少时间，可以再多想想。。。

发帖数: 98 | 10 I guess it depends on the level of game analysis you use. If your model is not
extremely complicated, I don't see why you can't work it out on your own without having
a game theorist serving on your committee. Of course, you probably need to let
some people look at your model. but do they have to be on your committee?
