Department of Pharmacology at the University of Virginia to participate in
research on the neural control of breathing and the circulation. The focus
is on the role of the rostral ventrolateral medulla in the regulation of
blood gases, blood pressure and vigilance. The laboratory offers training
possibilities in the following specialties: electrophysiology in vivo and in
slices (patching), lentivirus production, optogenetics, transgenic mouse
technology, blood pressure and bioelectric potential recording in
anesthetized and unanesthetized rodents plus a large variety of
neuroanatomical techniques. Outstanding candidates with training in any area
of physiology are encouraged to apply but prior experience in modern
integrative neuroscience and expertise in two or more of the above-listed
methodologies would be especially welcome.
