The laboratory of Dr. Jean-Francois Rual in the Department of Pathology at
University of Michigan is looking for a highly motivated individual with
exceptional organizational skills and strong background in basic molecular
and cell biology techniques to join our team as a Research Fellow. Our
research interests lie in the field of systems biology and the use of
proteomic approaches to study cellular networks. We focus on the systematic
analysis of protein interactions in biological systems and their
relationship to human disease, with particular interest in the cancer-
related Notch pathway. The Rual laboratory uses biochemical, molecular, cell
biological, and genetic means in high-throughput settings to address these
questions. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate
in research projects in a collaborative and interdisciplinary team
environment.
Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the PI, the Research Fellow will lead a research
project related to the characterization of the Notch molecular network
across metazoans by combining the use of the yeast two-hybrid system (Y2H)
with co-affinity purification followed by mass spectrometry analysis (coAP-
MS). The fellow will participate in project planning, data generation,
interpretation and evaluation and communication of results. She/he will also
be expected to acquire manuscript and grant writing skills and participate
in seminars, lectures, poster sessions and presentations at national
meetings. The fellow may be required to supervise junior lab members,
develop new methods and protocols for research and assist with the
development of other projects in the lab. While the foundations of the lab
are being developped, the candidate will be expected to take responsibility
for a wide range of experimental and non-exprimental activities which will
contribute greatly to her/his training and development into a successful
independent investigator.
Required qualifications:
Requirements for this position include a PhD or MD/PhD in the biological
sciences and the ability to master a variety of cellular and molecular
biology techniques. The successful candidate must have strong interpersonal,
communication and organizational skills and be a committed team player.
Application:
Completed applications for these positions will include: (1) a CV; (2) a
cover letter describing your specific interest in this position and relevant
qualifications and skills; and (3) the names and contact information of
three or more references. All files should be sent as PDF files,
electronically to: j***[email protected], subject line “Rual Laboratory Research
Fellow position”. |
