New DADT Repeal Bill Introduced
By Michelle Garcia
Two prominent senators introduced a bipartisan bill Friday to end the ban on
gay and lesbian troops serving in the military.
Introduced by senators Joseph Lieberman, an independent from Connecticut,
and Susan Collins, a Republican from Maine, the bill comes after the Senate
failed to win enough procedural votes Thursday to move forward on the
National Defense Authorization Act, which included an amendment to repeal "
don't ask, don't tell."
According to theWashington Post, Lieberman and Collins collaborated on the
idea for a stand-alone bill to repeal "don't ask, don't tell" during
Thursday's failed vote. Senate Majority Leader harry Reid reportedly told
Lieberman that he would fast-track the bill to a full vote, rather than
force it to go through the committee process. Democratic aides told the Post
that a vote could come late Tuesday or Wednesday after senators consider
the impending tax cut legislation.
The White House said Friday that President Barack Obama wishes to explore
all legislative options to repeal the 17-year-old law during the lame-duck
session, which is drawing to a close. | g********d 发帖数: 4174 | | k*****e 发帖数: 22013 | 3 所谓斗争,就是要持之以恒地骚扰对方。不达目的誓不罢休。lol

Okay, here is how this is gonna play out. The defense authorization bill
will pass (with pork) once DADT is removed. The DADT separate bill will fail
and we will find which lying Republicans didn't support it after saying
otherwise earlier in this process. Everybody in DC (including the military)
will cluck cluck for the cameras but secretly be relieved as they travel
home for the holidays. The courts will decide in our favor early in 2011,
McCain will lead the outraged response, and the law will be changed. Obama,
in his quest to rule from the center (which doesn't exist), will stay low-
key thinking it's the smart move for 2012. And we will all watch as new
Republicans in statehouses across the country try to roll back our progress.
Hate Obama if you like but 2012 (and every election) is about the Supreme
Court people and rebalancing it in our favor. Don't every forget it. |
