For many years, Republicans have shown that they are more interested in
being debauched in the darkness rather than making love in the light. Rising
Republican star Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu is embroiled in a scandal
over the fact that he apparently threatened to deport a Mexican national who
has claimed that he was Babeu’s lover for many years. It has even gone to
the point that Babeu’s lawyer tried to get Jose deported by claiming that
the Mexican man’s immigration paperwork had lapsed, which is apparently
false. Babeu also tried to force Jose to sign a contract that he would never
say anything about the affair.
Jose was smart, though, and retained Melissa Weiss-Riner, an immigration
lawyer, who stated that “He did come in and retain me late last year based
on threats and intimidation, and he wanted an attorney to help protect him.”
It has also been reported that photos of Babeu have been found on the gay
dating website Adam4Adam.com.
The now former Romney campaign co-chair is currently running for Congress in
Arizona, and has denied the affair happened attacking the allegations from
the man whom he claims was a campaign volunteer in his sheriff’s race back
in 2008. Babeu’s lawyer stated that “He believes he’ll be judged by his
record as a 20-year veteran of the United States Armed Forces, police
officer who has saved two lives in the line of duty and responded to
thousands of emergencies, and Iraq war veteran.” Which is a polite and
stupid way of trying to say ‘back off because this guy’s life makes him a
godsdamned hero.’ It does not disprove that Babeu is or is not sexually
attracted to men.
Babeu has stated that “The allegations referred to an incident that
occurred on Sept. 6, 2011, when the campaign’s website, Twitter account,
and online financial transaction system were illegally hacked…a cease and
desist letter was sent to the suspected perpetrator who promptly returned
access to the campaign. We strongly deny the sensationalist headline
published by the Phoenix New Times.” Which seems to be a very confused way
of saying something that is unfathomable right now.
Babeu stepped down from the Romney campaign. Romney’s people have stated
that “Sheriff Babeu has stepped down from his volunteer position with the
campaign so he can focus on the allegations against him. We support his
decision.”
