Question about a poster put out by the Toronto District School Board which
says "Love has No Gender."
Sun columnist and NewsTalk 1010 host Joe Warmington asks in his column "so
now the Toronto District School Board is telling kids they don't have to
boys or girls? What the hell is going on with these people?"
A new series of posters are part of the TDSB's Gender Based Violence
Prevention initiative.
In one poster, it shows stick men and women in a series of hearts. Some are
one man and one woman together. Some show two men, or two women. Some show
two men and a woman, or two women and a man. Another, shows a woman and a
man in a wheelchair.
The TDSB clarifies that it's not promoting polygamy in the poster, but the
images are meant to show the different types of relationship that exist in
society, according to the spokesman for the TDSB, Ryan Bird. In the article
he explains, "For example, the reason for depicting two women and one man
was meant to show that a person can be attracted to more than one gender.”
There are also other posters that make reference to little boys who play
with dolls and little girls who want to be firefighters, encouraging kids to
not fit themselves 'into a box'.
In the past, the TDSB has introduced calendar days for "International Day to
End Violence Against Sex Workers" and "International Day of Zero-Tolerance
on Female Genital Cutting/Mutilation." |
