A new study from The Williams Institute claims that LGBT Americans are
actually more likely to be poor than straights, especially among African-
Americans and women.
Using data from four different surveys, New Patterns of Poverty in the
Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Community basically concludes that queer folk are
"more vulnerable to being poor" and that "same-sex couples are more
vulnerable to poverty in general than are same-sex couples."
Here are just a few findings related to gay men:
• 10.2% of men in same-sex couples who live in small metropolitan
areas are poor, compared with only 3.3% of coupled gay men in large
metropolitan areas.
• Almost one in four children living with a male same-sex couple are
in poverty, compared to 12.1% of children living with married different-sex
couples.
• 7.7% of gay male couples receive food stamps, compared to 6.5% of
different-sex married couples.
“I think people are surprised there are any poor gay people,” lead study
author M.V. Lee Badgett tells CNBC, noting that we don't see poor gay people
on television or in movies. “This ‘myth of gay affluence’ has been
around for a long time. It gets in the way of people even imagining that
LGBT people can be poor.” |

体的，都多少和普通人不太一样，都不是按照常理出牌的人，这种人比较容易either很
有能力挣钱or很不在乎有没有钱，结果就是：either很有钱or很穷。

And, assuming all other things all equal, taxes and some social benefits
granted to straight couples but not gay couples can make gays less affluent.
