c*******r 发帖数: 13580 | 1 My usual cadence is 185 steps per minute. My hamstring was a bit tight today
so I wanted to go with shorter strides on my easy run. I counted my strides
a few times and they were between 195-200. I know the ideal cadence is 180-
190. I just wonder if it's going to do any harm to run at a higher cadence? | O****e 发帖数: 3290 | 2 If you feel easy and comfortable at high cadence, why not? I don't think it
is going to do any harm. High cadence just puts more burden on your heart.
It however makes it easy on your leg muscles. I think to run at a high
cadence is a good way of training. In a race though, to run fast, 195-200 is
probably too high to be efficient. But, who knows, people are different.
And, I think it also depends on the pace. The higher the pace, the less
choice you have. Take the example of cycling. If the target speed is 18mph
on flat, I can comfortably use 39/15 gear ratio as efficient as the ideal
ratio which should be around 51/17. At 20-21mph, I can still use 39/15 and
sustain it for a long period but I can feel it is not as efficient. However,
I often do this in a century ride for the purpose of training. And, my legs
recover faster afterward. You know some people use fixed gear in their
training ride and spin like crazy on the down hill. You don't do it in a
road race. | c*******r 发帖数: 13580 | 3 hehe, I am one of those who ride fixies at 140 RPM on downhills. I can't
seem to slow down my cadence when I run. I feel very uncomfortable when my
cadence drops to 180. I suppose it's a good thing.

legs right now. I feel the same way. |
