It almost killed me when I tried to run at a 9:20 pace with incline 4 on
treadmill... for about 0.3 miles.
I have always had the impression that I hate running uphills. Usually, I am
fine running at a 8:30 pace
with incline 0 for 5+ miles on treadmill. Once the incline goes up to 3 or 4
, it becomes tough for me
immediately. My HR goes up to 190 and I start to sweat right away (I do not
sweat much from
running...my t-shirt is rarely wet after a HM).
Is this kinda normal or I am still in a bad shape (my heart is not strong
enough)? Should I train myself
to run with inclines 3+ ? I will be running in a race with quite some
uphills in about a month. Hope I
can be prepared.

You need to learn to run hills. Typically, once a week I do a one hour run
on the treadmill at 15% incline. Try
that, and you won't be afraid of uphills in a race.:)

Sigh...it's like I can do whatever I want with incline 0 and it becomes so

9:23/mi pace with incline 4.0 on a treadmill is equivalent of 8:10/mi on a
level road.

it's the muscles. running hills uses slightly different muscles. it takes
some getting used to.

刚开始跑坡会不习惯, 跑多了就好了, 书上说跑坡用的肌肉纤维
是平地的3倍。。

我本来计划一个礼拜跑一次坡的treadmill..第一次3.0 5 miles..damaged my lower
back..not that bad though..第二个礼拜先zumba了一个小时再去跑同样坡度..2 mile
就死了..然后腰痛了五天..每天上thermal pad..跑我家门口的路有上有下就还好..一
直up就完蛋了...后来开始多练lower back..觉得IT民工可能容易伤...lower back很弱

!嗯,Sacramento的American river parkway特别好。
向东一路上坡,返回的时候下坡,long run一次啥都有了。。。只是我懒,去年8月份
以后就没有再去过了。

我几乎没在跑步机上跑过5%。。。外面加上wind/surface/camber等因素,应该比跑步
机上的难吧。

我的意思问这两个坡度的斜度是相同的么? 不考虑路跑和跑步机的差异的话。。
