many pro athletes nowadays don't bother with altitude chambers any more
because they can just take EPO (when not racing). I asked him what he
thought Lance Armstrong had done. He said that since Lance has only one
testicle, he can take testosterone legally, which gives his a significant
advantage over those who have two testicles and cannot take testosterone.
Especially in cycling, one spends a long time on the saddle which makes the
testicles very hot and produce less testosterone. Lance on the other hand
could monitor his testosterone level as he wishes. That would be consistent
with the fact that Lance has never won any kind of world championship level
one-day event (not sure how deep the field is in Leadville MTB race), but
only triumphed in the 21-day TdF. |
