SAN DIEGO – Stay out of the water today!
The beaches and low-lying areas of San Diego County are expected to feel the
effects of the massive earthquake in Japan that triggered a devastating
tsunami.
A two-foot tsunami-related swell is expected to roll in about 8:41 am PT,
according to the tsunami-warning agency. Other similar swells will roll in
throughout the day as the Pacific Ocean reacts to one of the worst quakes
and tsunamis in modern history.
San Diego police are patrolling the boardwalk and beaches, warning people of
the advisory. Some residents of low-lying areas along the coast and San
Diego Bay are being asked to evacuate as a precaution.
The National Weather Service stresses that the San Diego event is not a
warning, just an advisory, but urges people to stay away from the shore. |
