While I am not an emergency preparedness expert, by living in San Francisco
for a dozen years and attended some emergency planning meetings for my
previous job, I collected some tips and thought I'd share some information
with the rest of you.
Preparing for an emergency is somewhat like planning for a camping trip.
You should prepare to be self-reliant for at least 72 hours, which means you
should be able to live on your own without assistance. You should have the
following in your kit: water, food, extra clothing/blankets, medication/
first aid and cash. The food should be in the form of canned food (bring
can opener) or dry food such as protein bars or crackers with minimal
cooking.
We take cell phones, TV and internet for granted, but in the event of an
emergency, we probably won't have those. Instead you should have whistles,
battery-operated radios (and extra batteries), and flashlights.
Emergency might happen when the family is not together, so plan ahead for a
central location to meet, such as a school nearby, a stadium, or a
recreation center. Stay away from police and fire stations, those could be
used as command centers and you want to be out of their way. Once together,
try not to go on the road if you can. Leave the arterials open for the
emergency crews.
Gather all your documents (birth certificates, passports, marriage
certificates, insurance information, etc) and put them in a convenient
location so when emergency strikes, you can grab them and go. Keeping a
digital record online/off site with a friend is a good idea as well.
If the emergency is an earthquake, don't panic! Duck under a desk or table
to cover yourself. Most likely you won't die from an earthquake if your
head is not hit by something. Stay away from windows. When the ground
stops shaking, go outside and stay outside.
That's a start. Educate your kids and run drills so they know what to do (
if they go to school, they should already be running drills). For more

到底哪种是对的? | T****N
发帖数: 693 | 4 桌子底下不安全，通常是说的中国国内，都是砖瓦房的情况。
同时也要看桌子是否够结实。

发帖数: 1242 | 5 我也听说过。好像是神户地震后有个专家说不应该躲在桌子底下，应该在桌子旁边蹲下
来。
可是我觉得要是在家的话，应该没什么东西能把结实的桌子。我更担心书架的东西乱飞
把我砸到，所以觉得桌底下还是应该比较安全的吧。而且如果桌子都能砸坏的，我的脑
袋会比桌子结实吗？
我只是觉得是大家都应该有个emergency plan/kit。有一个即使不完善也总比没有好。

发帖数: 5637 | 6 谢谢分享。上次听SD Emergency Preparation的一位领导的讲座。与会者也问他关于“
地震三角形”即地震到底应该躲在桌子下还是桌子边的问题。虽然email上广传一个什
么地震专家的建议是躲在桌子边，他的答案是仍旧躲在桌子下好。除了LZ的建议外，他
还建议我们多准备一份眼镜，药品等。

发帖数: 2638 | 7 嗨，想当初俺住long beach的时候一次还蛮大的地震，我住3楼，震感很强
等不晃了，和ld提了急用箱，里头有重要文件之类的东西
结果邻居们都是空手下来的，站在院子里头聊天开玩笑，没事似的
再后来complex发生火灾，我老人家在家赶final的paper，毫不动摇的等到别人来清楼
，然后我老人家被两手空空的赶到大街上，就带了个手机，然后接到某同学在北卡机场
打来的电话说“老婆，我看到我们家appartement发生火灾了！”
然后就后悔没提箱子下来了，12月份的晚上，大街上好冷啊！后来去了街对面
highschool的stadium避难，吃了american red cross送的pizza
现在碰到这种情况还是趁侥幸心理，呆家里不动，就算出去也是两手空空 |
