up in the first place.

Prop 209 was for white as well. But what they didn't expect at that time was
a drastic changes of the demographic mixes of Asian population: from Asian
American whose parents who are refugees, to the new Asian American whose
parents are highly educated, therefore easily beat them at college admission.
They are waking up to the fact now. But at the same time, they are doomed.
Because of the Great Recession, the mix of Hispanic population in US is also
moving to urban/educated type from rural/farmer type.

The comments are overwhelmingly opposed to SCA-5 and most of the comments
are written by the white, I guess.

Diversity in higher education would certainly benefit everyone involved. It
enhances cultural exchange and improves mutual understandings among all
racial and ethnic groups. There are however many different ways to achieve
diversity. Using racial profiling in college admission is simply the worst
approach and is morally wrong and practically very dangerous. It creates
unfairness, sends wrong messages to the future generations and discriminates
all racial groups.
USA is an immigrant country. All immigrants come here for the great American
Dream, where "life should be better and richer and fuller for every man,
with opportunity for each according to his ability or achievement" (James
Adams). What's great about this country is that it provides a fair
competition ground for everybody to thrive. Undeniably, Asian as a group has
greatly benefited from the Prop 209. They achieved this by their years of
hard work not by racial discrimination. They should be the role models, not
scapegoats.
What the proposed SCA does is to tell the future generations that racial
profiling is OK, that hard work is not good enough and is also not necessary
for a successful life, that competition is not welcome in the state of
California. These are all wrong messages to our children.
The inherent assumption behind the SCA5 is that certain racial groups are
not as smart and competitive as the other racial groups. In a racial blind
fashion, the UC admits far more Asian students than other minority groups.
Let's correct this by injecting race back into the equation. Oh wait, isn't
this racial discrimination, is this? The result? Fear. Unnecessary fear
among Chinese and other Asian American. Unnecessary in the sense that such a
legislation should not have existed from the very beginning.« less

完全是在制造白人和亚洲人(中国人)的矛盾。 完全不提黑人和西裔的人口比例,AA是
要提高西裔人数,欺骗读者。
谁英文好发个评论反驳下吧。 |

What a deceptive article!!!!
They author deliberately rose a conflict between Asian American and Whites,
but did not mention Hispanic at all.
As a professor in politics, the author must know AA is back to discussion
again because some politicians want to get Hispanic more seats in colleges,
then they can get more votes from them later on.
Remember, hispanics are fast growing population in this country, and one day
both Whites and Asian will become minority. Both Asian and whites will
become victims if the political trend keeps going the wrong direction.«
