according to some sources, the rule of thumb is:
the first 10 guys get 5% in total,
the 10 - 100 get 5% in total,
the 100 - 1000 get 5%
and 1000 - 10000 get 5%.

You've got to be kidding me. Maybe possible if it's CTO or VP Engineering
position, or if you are the only technical person and the whole company's
future is depending on you.
0.5% is more reasonable.

worth going for a 5-person startup.
In many startups, if you are the 50th employee as an engineer, you still can
get 0.1%.
