Company Overview
ShareThis is a service in the social media space. ShareThis enables site
publishers to provide a simple one-button option to users to share site
content with others through email, social networks, and social bookmarking.
ShareThis promotes sharing of interesting content among users connected by a
social graph and shared interests. Publisher’s benefit from insights on
how their content is shared and disseminated among the user community.
Through the share gesture, ShareThis accumulates significant data on sharing
behavior, providing insights on interests, and influence circle of users.
ShareThis has experienced significant growth both in adoption by site
publishers and share actions by users. Over 900,000 publishers have
incorporated the ShareThis widget driving 5 billion+ page views monthly. The
business end of ShareThis involves developing informational insights from
data that can be used in online advertising. The company is currently
engaged in several such revenue generating opportunities and is experience
significant interest and excitement from publishers and advertisers.
Role
The staff member will work collaboratively with a team of computer engineers
responsible for managing ever growing and challenging infrastructure. The
infrastructure supports applications that runs on very modern technologies
such as cloud computing using AWS, data infrastructre that runs on Hadoop,
Cassandra, MongoDB, MySQL and applications that are built using LAMP stack
and JAVA. ShareThis currently processes 20+TB of data monthly. This is a key
strategic initiative for the company and as such garners significant
visibility at senior levels. The position reports to the Director of
Infrastructure & Analytics.
Responsibilities of this position include:
Innovative Engineering: The successful candidate will be responsible for
taking active role in deploying new products that benefits users, publishers
, and advertisers. You will collaborate with in a team that contributes to
research and development, products, technology architecture, implementation
and integration between various systems within the company that will
collectively work together to deliver a solution.
Technology Architecture: As a staff member you will be responsible
infrastructure that it is highly scalable, extensible, and adaptive as it
evolves through the next 12-18 months.
Idealized Candidate Profile:
The idealized candidate is most likely to be a hybrid: part sysadmin/and
part engineer. This needs to be a candidate that is clearly passionate
about the challenges related to large infrastructure, applications
associated with date processing, online advertising, and social media. It
is essential for the candidate to have outstanding technical skills. From a
technical perspective, the candidate must have direct domain experience in
data product engineering, deep understanding of systems administration. The
candidate must demonstrate first hand experience in building and deploying
systems that scale. Implementation experience in SQL or NOSQL based systems,
AWS, Hive, Cassandra, Hadoop, HDFS/HBase or equivalent is strongly
preferred. Experience in scripting languages such as Shell, Perl and
programming languages such as Java/C++ and/or Python, PHP is required.

Educational Requirements:
Bachelors or Masters in computer science or other technical discipline or
engineering background from a leading school is preferred.
