If you have no idea whether your kids like piano or not, U1 is OK. just
treat it like a toy.
If your kid is very good at piano, then purchase something good. At least U3.

至少以后小孩不弹了，还可以不错的价钱卖掉。如果弹得好了，再去upgrade别的。
2000买成色好的旧琴没戏。

yamaha and kawai are like toyota and honda, their upscale ones are just like
lexus and acura. while they are not the top brand, you won't get too wrong
with them. and U1 is just like camry/accord, good enough for daily commute,
(even with some comfort and fun, depends on who you are), but nothing fancy.
U1 is good enough to get you started, anything lower than that, it's like
buying corolla or something, you may wonder if it's safe enough, - you may
wonder if the sound quality is good enough for those precious little ears.
buying used one? sure. If you know the whole 9 yards. Like buying a used car
, you need to do the mechanic check, test drive it, and for a newbie, the
chances to get a great used car at great price is very slim. same here.
so I would say go for it (U1), it's a great first piano. If couple of years
later your little one shows real talent, upgrade to a grand (yamaha will
take your U1 at the original price you got it - not sure if this program is
still active), or go for those fancy brand.

呢。曾经在craigslist看到过2600的20年旧U1，不会挑，还是没敢买。 |

reconditioned pianos which are usually 500 more than private used ones.
Don't buy refurbished piano but "Reconditioned" instead. Reconditioned piano
are pianos which have parts ruined by time but are completely replaced with
new parts. They're used but don't sound or look like they are. A
reconditioned U1 should cost $2500 while a U3 should be $3500.
I'm sure you can find some reconditiond ones in SF's dealers.

发帖数: 658 | 18 yes, u do need to try the piano before u make ur decision. A new piano
doesn't mean it's good, as i mentioned earlier, each piano's tone color
is different, some are brighter (Yamama is typical), some are warmer,
some are lighter, some are heavier... etc. you need a professional to
try out for you and see which one is better. As a piano teacher myself,
i recommend warmer tone with heavier keyboard, dont pick those light
keyboard, it's bad for student's technique.

有些人是用其他钢琴的零件换进去的。
好的钢琴里面全部的击键都是同一块大木头切出来的，保持一致性。
木头纹路什么都对得上的。有些 recondition 的钢琴是吧其他
旧钢琴好的零件拼凑到一起的，木头纹理对不上。这就和汽车
换过引擎一样。 |

春夏秋冬，钢琴还会变化。所以，最省事的办法是去youtube上看DIY的VIDEO，掌握基
本技能。
